(a) whether there is any scheme of the Government to insure the Khadi artisans;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the action taken to subsidise insurance scheme for such employees to reduce premium burden on the poor artisans;

(d) whether it is a fact that the KVIC has formulated an insurance scheme for 4 lakh Khadi workers; and

(e) if so, details thereof?

(a) to (e): Yes, Sir. The Government proposes to launch on 15.08.2003 the Janashree Bima Yojana, a Group Insurance Scheme for nearly 3.13 lakhs full time artisans working in the Khadi Sector under the KVIC. As a social security measures for these artisans, the scheme provides risk cover in case of natural death for Rs. 20,000/- while in case of death due to accident, an amount of Rs. 50,000/- will be payable. In case of permanent disability (loss of two eyes/limbs of use) due to accident, Rs. 50,000/- is payable and in the case of partial disability, Rs. 25,000/- is payable to the beneficiary. The insurance premium of Rs. 200/- per annum for each Khadi artisan under Scheme would be contributed as under:-

Social Security fund	Rs. 100/-
Khadi Institution	Rs. 50/-
Khadi Artisan	Rs. 25/-
KVIC/Govt. of India	Rs. 25/-
Total Rs. 200/-
