Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT (SMT. SMRITI ZUBIN IRANI)

(a): Teaching of German Language in Kendriya Vidyalayas as a Third Language (as an option to Sanskrit), has been discontinued as it was violative of the provisions of the National Policy of Education, 1968 (NPE) and the National Curriculum Framework, 2005 (NCF) relating to the Three Language Formula. German Language would however be available to such students of class VI to VIII as an additional subject, if they so desire.

(b): In the Kendriya Vidyalayas, Sanskrit is offered as a third language from Class VI to VIII and from Class IX to XII, it is offered as an elective subject as per the choice of the students according to Scheme of Studies prescribed.

(c) & (d) Yes, Madam. However, recruitment of teachers is a continuous process, and teachers are appointed on contract basis wherever required.

(e) & (f): In the Kendriya Vidyalayas, the option of studying Sanskrit or any Modern Indian Language is currently available to students in classes VI to VIII.
