Question : STRENGTHENING OF ASI



(a) whether the Government has proposed to strengthen Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) functioning in the country including Odisha and Maharashtra;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the areas of ASI identified for the said purpose;

(c) the details of expenditure proposed to be incurred on strengthening of ASI in the State; and

(d) the funds sanctioned and released so far for the said purpose and the time by which strengthening of ASI is likely to be completed?

(a) & (b) Yes, Madam. Four additional posts of Additional Director General and 18 additional posts of Joint Director General have been sanctioned for the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). ASI has also formulated a comprehensive proposal for overall strengthening of all wings of ASI like monument, conservation, exploration & excavation, epigraphy, chemistry, horticulture, planning, budget & account, security, Institute of Archaeology and Site Museums in all Branches and Circle offices of ASI.

(c) & (d) The proposed strengthening of ASI is under consi- deration of Ministry of Finance.
