Question : COMMUNICABLE DISEASES



(a) the number of cases of communicable diseases and attributable deaths reported during each of the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise;

(b) the schemes/programmes being implemented to control communicable diseases along with the funds earmarked, allocated and utilized for the purpose during the said period, State/UT-wise;

(c) whether the Government proposes to strengthen/upgrade the existing branches and set up new branches of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in various States/UTs to promote research on newly emerging communicable diseases;

(d) if so, the details thereof along with the financial and operational modalities worked out for the purpose, location and State/UT-wise; and

(c) the details of the proposals received from the States/UTs including Gujarat for the purpose and the action taken/proposed to be taken by the Government thereon?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO, 67 FOR.27 FEBRUARY, 2015

(a) & b) The number of cases of communicable diseases and attributable deaths reported during each of the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise for the national communicable disease control programmes being implemented by Government of India are given at - Annexure-I. The programmes for communicable diseases are:

1. National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP)

2. Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP)

3. National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP) and

4. National AIDS Control Programme (NACP)

Information on funds earmarked, allocated and utilized for the purpose during the said period, State /UT-wise is at Annexure-II.

(c) &(d) Yes, the 12Ltl Five Year Plan provides for strengthening of 8 existing branches and establishment of new branches of NCDC in various States to cover the entire country for which financial allocation of Rs. 400 crore has been made by the Government oflndia. Government has decided to finalize the location of the branches in respective States in consultation with the States.21 States including Gujarat and one Union Territory have been included for setting up of ne w branches of NCDC.

(e) During the 12th Five Year Plan, no proposal has been received from any State/UT’s so far for this purpose.
