(a) whether the Tata and Singapore Airlines had jointly bidden for operation on domestic and international routes in 1997; and

(b) if so, the reasons for discontinuation of their flights?

THE MINISTER OF CIVIL AVIATION (SHRI SHARAD YADAV)

(a) and (b): In December, 1997 M/s Tata Industries had submitted a proposal for operating domestic scheduled airline services with 40% foreign equity in M/s Tata Airlines Pvt. Ltd. which involved technical collaboration by M/s Singapore Airlines. While the proposal was under consideration, the company on its own withdrew the proposal on 1st September, 1998.
