Question : IMPORT-EXPORT WITH CHINA AND PAKISTAN

(

(a) the items / products that India has been `importing` normally from Pakistan and China;

(b) the items / products that India has been `Exporting` to Pakistan and China; and (

(c) the details of trade performance with these countries during the last two years?

(a ) to ( c ) : India imported fruits and nuts excluding cashew nuts and other items including pulses, sugar and spices from Pakistan worth Rs.295.59 crores in 1999-2000 and Rs. 299.45 crores in 2000-2001. From China our imports included coal, electronic goods, organic and inorganic chemicals, silk, medicines and pharmaceutical products, fertilizers and machinery etc. worth Rs.5575.64 crores in 1999-2000 and Rs. 6706.34 crores in 2000-2001.

India exported sugar, inorganic and organic chemicals, oil meals, plastic and linoleum products, dyes, rubber and spices to Pakistan worth Rs.402.76 crores in 1999-2000 and Rs.848.41 crores in 2000-2001. Our exports to China mainly included iron and other ores and minerals, marine products, plastic and linoleum products, cotton yarn, fabrics, made-ups, inorganic, organic and agro chemicals, drugs and pharmaceuticals etc. worth Rs. 2334.56 crores in 1999-2000 and Rs. 3788.32 crores in 2000-2001.
