Question : SCHEMES AND PROJECTS IN KARNATAKA



(a) the details of ongoing Schemes and Projects of the Ministry during each of the last three years and the current year, State-wise including Karnataka;

(b) the details of complaints and suggestions received in this regard during the above period, State-wise;

(c) the action taken thereon and the amount involved in each scheme/project;

(d) whether the full allocated budget allocation was spent during the above period;

(e) if not, the reasons therefor; and

(f) the steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government for expeditious implementation of these schemes/projects?

MINISTER OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT, MINISTER OF SCIENCE AND TEHCNOLOGY, MINISTER OF EARTH SCIENCES AND MINISTER OF COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (KAPIL SIBAL)

(a) Under the ongoing Plan Schemes of the Ministry, a large number of research & development, technology development & demonstration projects have been funded in various States including Karnataka, in the areas of science and engineering research; bioinformatics; bio-tech parks; plant, animal, rural, agriculture and marine biotechnology; biodiversity conservation and environment; consultancy clinics; science popularization; biofuels; hospital waste management; drugs and pharma; instrumentation development; drinking water; S&T entrepreneurship development; S&T for women; science and equity empowerment development; technology intervention for societal needs; S&T for human resource development; intellectual property and technology management; setting up of innovation complexes, technology business incubators, etc. These projects supported in the above areas under the various ongoing schemes of the Ministry are received from individual scientists of different research entities both Central and State situated in the country. According to the available official statistics with Department of Science & Technology, the details on the number of Research & Development projects funded based on competitive evaluation during the last three years i.e. 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08 state-wise including Karnataka are provided in the attached statement.

(d) The Ministry does not have any provision of State-wise budget allocation as these projects are received from individual scientists of various research entities both Central and State situated in the country.
