Question : CONTRACTORS FOR METRO RAIL PROJECTS



(a) whether the Government engages contractors for metro rail projects in Delhi and Mumbai;

(b) if so, the details of contractors engaged so far in Delhi and Mumbai;

(c) the details of faulty construction works reported in Delhi and Mumbai metro rail work so far;

(d) the details of contractors against whom action has been taken or proposes to be taken by the Government;

(e) the details of labourers who got accidently killed in Delhi and Mumbai during metro rail work;

(f) whether the compensation has been paid to next kin of deceased in each case; and (g) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor along with the action taken/being taken by the Government in this regard?

(a): No, Madam.

(b): Does not arise.

(c)&(d): Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (DMRC) has informed that till date 3 major faulty construction works have been detected in Delhi Metro Rail Projects and the action taken by them against the contractors are given in Annexure.

Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has informed that Mumbai Metro Line-1 has been implemented on Public Private Partnership (PPP) model where the entire works were done by the private partner.

Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (MMRCL) has informed that they have not awarded any contract for Mumbai Metro Line-3 Project so far.

(e)to(g): DMRC has informed that 19 workers died during the construction work of Delhi Metro Phase-III and total compensation of Rs. 1,97,51,960/- have been paid to their families.

MMRDA has informed that 6 persons died and 17 persons got injured during the construction of Mumbai Metro Line-1. Total compensation of Rs. 56.65 lakhs has been paid to their affected families.
