Question : New Regional Centres of IIMC

a) whether his Ministry has any plan to open new regional centres of Indian Institute of Mass Communication in the country and if so, the details thereof;

b) whether such a centre is also proposed in Bihar to create opportunities for the youth living in Eastern parts of the country and if so, the details thereof;

c) the time by which the said institute is likely to be opened keeping in view the great need of employment, skill development and quality journalism;

d) whether IIMC proposes to start courses in Bengali, Gujarati, Assamese, Maithili, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Punjabi, Nepali and Santhali; and

e) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (e) The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), New Delhi has regional campuses at Jammu, Amravati, Aizawl, Dhenkanal and Kottayam for covering students from various parts of the country. These campuses impart diploma courses in various Indian languages including Hindi, Urdu, Odia, Marathi and Malayalam. At present, there is no proposal to open more campuses of IIMC in other parts of the country.
