Question : Medical and Nursing Colleges

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:


(a) the total number of UG and PG seats in Medical Colleges across the country;

(b) the total number of nursing seats in each nursing course across the country, State/UT-wise;

(c) the total number of medical and nursing colleges set up in the country before 2014 and those added after 2014 along with the total increase in the number of UG, PG and nursing seats since 2014, year-wise and State/ UT-wise; and

(d) the estimated number of Allopathic doctors and nurses added to the healthcare system in the country, year-wise since 2014?

ANSWER

(a) & (b): As informed by the National Medical Commission (NMC), presently there are 83275 MBBS and 42720 Post Graduate (PG) seats in the country. Further, as informed by Indian Nursing Council (INC) the details of total number of nursing institutes and seats as on 31.03.2021 in each nursing course State/UT-wise are at Annexure-I.

(c): The details of number of medical colleges alongwith MBBS seats, state-wise and year-wise from the year 2014 to 2020, are at Annexure-II. The details of nursing institute alongwith seats, state-wise and year-wise from 2014 to 2021 is at Annexure-III (i-viii).

(d): As informed by National Medical Commission (NMC)/ Indian Nursing Council (INC) , 2,78,215 number of doctors, 1,53,812 Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) , 5,40,809 Registered Nurses/ Registered Midwives (RN/RM) and 758 Lady health Visitors (LHV) were added in the country from 2014.
