Question : DEVELOPMENT OF NATIONAL HIGHWAYS



(a) the total length of the National Highways of the country;

(b) whether the Government have fixed any time bound targets to develop this entire National Highways;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether any national level organization has been assigned the responsibility to maintain the high standards in development and maintenance of National Highways; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) At present the total length of National Highways in the country is 52010 kms.

(b) & (c): Development and maintenance of National Highways is a continuous process. However, Govt. has drawn up a phased programme for improving riding quality of all National Highways.

(d) & (e) Yes, Sir. The National Highways Authority of India has been entrusted with the development and maintenance of certain National Highways.
