Question : CONNECTIVITY OF NORTH EASTERN STATES BY RAIL



(a) whether the Government have formulated any scheme to connect other States of North-eastern region by railways; and

(b) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b): A number of new line projects are in progress in Northeast Region which on completion would provide rail connectivity to the States. These include: -

i) Harmuti-Itanagar (Assam & Arunachal Pradesh)

ii) Jiribam-Imphal Road (Tupul).(Assam & Manipur)

iii) Kumarghat-Agartala (Tripura)
iv) Dudhnoi-Depa (Assam & Meghalaya)

v) New Maynaguri-Jogighopa (West Bengal & Assam)

Apart from these, survey for the following new rail lines have recently been completed/are in progress:-

i) Dimapur to Kohima (Nagaland)
ii) Bhairabi to Sairang/Aizwal (Mizoram)
iii) Sivok to Gielkhola (West Bengal)
iv) Azara to Byrnihat (Assam & Meghalaya)
v) Jogighopa-Panchratna to Silchar (Assam & Meghalaya)
vi) Agartala to Sabroom (Tripura)
