Question : FPIs in Maharashtra

(a) the details of Food Processing Industries (FPIs) functioning in Maharashtra and the number of employees working therein, district-wise;

(b) the details of number of FPIs which have received technical assistance from the Central Government during the last three years and the current year, district-wise; and

(c) whether the Government proposes to increase the number of FPIs in Maharashtra, if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PART (a) to (c) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. *289 ANSWERED ON 16TH MARCH, 2021 REGARDING “FPIS IN MAHARASHTRA”

(a): As per Annual Survey of Industries 2017-18, the number of registered food processing units functional in Maharashtra is 2316 with 2,38,477 employees working in these units. As per National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) 73rd round (2015-16) data, the number of unregistered food processing units operational in Maharashtra is 2,29,372. District-wise data is not reported in these surveys.

(b): MoFPI provides financial assistance for setting up food processing industries under its flagship scheme Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY). No technical assistance is provided under the scheme. Since 2017-18, MoFPI has approved a total of 101 projects in the State of Maharashtra under the different component schemes of PMKSY. The total project cost of these projects amount to Rs 1863.94 Crore with approved Grants in Aid of Rs 508.71 Crore. The district-wise details of the projects are at Annexure.

(c): Besides PMKSY, the Ministry is implementing a Centrally Sponsored Scheme-PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme (PMFME) from the current financial year for providing financial, technical and business support for upgradation/setting up of micro food processing enterprises across the country. Under this scheme, the State is provided an outlay of Rs. 921.53 Crore for the next five years to support upgradation/ setting up of 20,130 micro food processing units in the State.
