Question : RESTRUCTURING OF NHAI



(a) whether Government proposes to restructure the National Highway Authority of India; and

(b) if so, the details thereof and the present position of the restructuring proposal?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF SHIPPING, ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS (SHRI K. H. MUNIYAPPA)

(a) and (b) Restructuring of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for making it a multi-disciplinary body has been approved by the Government with the following salient features:

(i) Selection of the Chairman by a search committee and tenure of Chairman be fixed for at least three years;

(ii) Increase in the full time Members from five to six and part-time Members from four to six;

(iii) Creation of additional posts of Chief General Managers (CGMs);

(iv) Creation of expert units in the areas of finance, legal, safety, quality etc.; and

(v) Empowering the NHAI to engage outside experts.
