(a) whether the ICICI and SBI caps jointly studied each and every aspect of
restructuring exercise and gave a report recommending the appropriate model of
restructuring NTPC Limited and PCI Limited;
(b) whether the Government have approved the recommendations; and
(c) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (c) : M/s. ICICI and SBI Capital markets were engaged as consultants to study
the financial engineering of the Central Power Sector Undertakings with a view to
enabling them to leverage larger resources for investment. The consultants observed
various alternatives. On considering their observations, NTPC has engaged AT Kearney
Consultants for undertaking a study with the objective of positioning NTPC as a premier
and competitive power utility of international standard. The study is in progress.
Meanwhile, some of the CPSUs have decided to explore the possibility of entering the
capital market with a public issue of equity.
