Question : Setting up of Agricultural Universities-Veterinary Colleges

(a) the number of new agricultural universities, veterinary colleges, Research Institutes, Bio Technology Institutes and Krishi Vigyan Kendras set up in the country during the last three years, State-wise along with the financial cost incurred thereon;

(b) the number of upgraded and hybrid varieties developed by the Research Institutes of the country during the last three years; and

(c) the details of the scheme formulated for agriculture development and extending its benefit to various States including Rajasthan along with the details of the funds allocated by the Government in this regard?

(a) The details are given in Annexure-I.

(b) National Agriculture Research System, including the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, during last three years (2014, 2015 and 2016) has developed total 463 upgraded and hybrid varieties of different crops and released these for commercial cultivation. These varieties include 247 of cereals (105 of rice, 37 of wheat, 43 of maize, 22 of pearl millet, 16 of sorghum, 10 of barley and 14 of small millets); 74 of oilseeds (20 of rapeseed mustard, 11 of groundnut, 6 of sesame, 15 of soybean, 5 of sunflower, 3 of castor, 9 of linseed, 3 of niger and 2 of safflower); 63 of pulses (14 of chickpea, 16 of mungbean, 5 of urdbean, 8 of pigeonpea, 6 of lentil, 7 of fieldpea, 3 of cowpea and 4 of horse gram); 36 of fibre crops (24 of cotton, 4 of jute, 2 of mesta, 2 of kenaf, one each of sunhemp and ramie and 2 of roselle); 31 of forage crops (4 of bajra, 8 of oats, 3 of sorghum, 2 of napier bajra, 3 of cowpea, 3 of ricebean, 2 of lucerne, one of berseem and 5 of various grasses) and 12 of sugarcane.

In addition, during 2017 (till May), total 170 upgraded varieties/hybrids have been released which include 92 of cereals (48 of rice, 13 of wheat, 20 of maize, 2 of pearl millet, 1 each of sorghum and barley and 7 of small millets); 25 of oilseeds (8 of rapeseed mustard, 3 of groundnut, 5 of soybean, 3 of sunflower, 1 of castor, 3 of linseed and 2 of niger); 27 of pulses (10 of chickpea, 3 of mungbean, 2 of pigeon pea, 3 of lentil, 2 of field pea, 4 of cow pea and one each of urdbean, horse gram and faba bean); 14 of fibre crops (11 of cotton and 3 of jute); 6 of forage crops (one each of bajra, oat, sorghum, cowpea, marvel grass and grain amaranth) and 6 of sugarcane.

In horticulture crops 140 improved horticultural varieties have been notified during the last three years which include 10 of Fruits; 90 of Vegetables including potato and onion; 19 of Spices and Condiments; 8 of Plantation crops; 8 of Flowers; 3 Medicinal and Aromatic plants and 2 of Tuber and Rhizomes.

Similarly four backyard poultry varieties viz. Kamrupa, Narmadanidhi, Jharsim and Himsamridhi have been developed and Eight pig varieties – HD-K75, Rani & Asha, Jharsuk, Mannuthy White, Lumsniang, TANUVAS Crossbred Pig and Tirupati Varaha have been developed.

(c) The details of the various schemes formulated for agriculture development and extending its benefit to various States including Rajasthan along with the details of the funds allocated are given in Annexure-II.
