Question : Kishori Shakti Yojana





(a) Whether the Government implements Kishori Shakti Yojana in the country;
(b) If so, the objectives and salient features thereof;
(c) Whether the scheme has been implemented throughout the country, if so, the details thereof and if not, reasons therefor;
(d) the funds allocated/released and utilized along with beneficiaries under the Yojana during each of the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise;
(e) whether vocational training to adolescent girls is being given under the scheme and if so, the details thereof; and
(f) the steps being taken by the Government to enhance the coverage and functioning of the scheme?

(a) & (b) Yes Madam, the Government is implementing Kishori Shakti Yojana in the country. The objectives of Kishori Shakti Yojana are: -
i) to improve the nutritional and health status of girls in the age group of 11-18 years;
ii) to provide the required literacy and numeracy skills through the non-formal stream of education, to stimulate a desire for more social exposure and knowledge and to help them improve their decision making capabilities;
iii)to train and equip the adolescent girls to improve/ upgrade home-based and vocational skills;
iv) to promote awareness of health, hygiene, nutrition and family welfare, home management and child care, and to take all measure as to facilitate their marrying only after attaining the age of 18 years and if possible, even later;
v) to gain a better understanding of their environment related social issues and the impact on their lives; and
vi) to encourage adolescent girls to initiate various activities to be productive and useful members of the society.




(c) to (e) State-wise number of projects sanctioned under Kishori Shakti Yojana, funds released alongwith its utilization reported by the State Governments during each of the last three years is at Anexure-1. So far, no funds
have been released to the States/UTs under KSY in the current financial year.
Vocational training is one of the services provided to girls under KSY. Details of the beneficiaries covered including vocational training under the scheme during last three years and the current year is at Annexure-2.

(f) Ministry of Women and Child Development reviewed the schemes for adolescent girls including Kishori Shakti Yojana and introduced a comprehensive scheme for empowerment of adolescent girls namely Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls – Sabla on pilot basis in the year 2010, the scheme at present is being implemented in 205 selected districts from all the States/UTs. Kishori Shakti Yojana has been replaced by Sabla in these 205 districts and is being implemented, as before, in remaining districts of the country.
