Question : Constitution of Coordination Committee on CulturalTraditions

(a) whether any Coordination Committee related to live and various cultural traditions has been constituted;

(b) if so, the details and objective and the constitution of the committee thereof;

(c) whether the Government proposes to prepare a register of intangible cultural heritage of the country;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) whether the said Committee has invited views/suggestions from various experts for preparing such register and if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b) Yes Sir, the Coordination Committee (CC) on the Living and Diverse Cultural Traditions of India was constituted on 21st October, 2010 with a view to establish a synergy between and amongst different disciplines and administrative structures of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Currently, the Coordination Committee is being reconstituted.

(c) to (e) Yes Sir, the Ministry of Culture has proposed to prepare a National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) of India. A draft version of the national list containing 106 ICH elements with audio visual documentation was launched in April 2020. A distinctive feature of this list is community participation where local community and all concerned stakeholders have been invited to suggest intangible cultural practices from their respective states and regions to strengthen the list.
