Question : Drinking Water Facility

(a) whether the Railways has recently admitted that it persisted with a flawed water quality monitoring procedure with the result that drinking water available on platforms and in its staff flats is contaminated with bacteria;

(b) if so, whether the poor railway passengers have to use water available at platforms which cause stomach infections and diseases; and

(c) if so, the facts and the details thereof and further steps that Government proposes to take to ensure that the water available at various platforms for poor commuters is safe?

(a) No, Madam.

(b) Drinking water supplied to the railway passengers at platforms through drinking water taps is suitably treated, as per requirement, before the exit point of supply.

(c) Ministry of Railways has adopted the “Uniform Drinking Water Quality Monitoring Protocol” issued by Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation.
