Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF THE STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF LABOUR & EMPLOYMENT (SHRI MALLIKARJUN KHARGE)

(a) to (d): The matter was raised by some of the employees’ trade unions to enhance the minimum wages to Rs.10, 000/- per month in the 44th session of Indian Labour Conference held on 14th-15th February, 2012. However, the Ministry of Labour & Employment has no proposal at present to enhance the minimum wages to Rs. 10,000/- per month.

Presently, the minimum wages are revised quinquennially in the Central Sphere. Further, Variable Dearness Allowance is revised twice a year to offset the impact of price rise as reflected in the Consumer Price Indices.
