Question : Lack of Access to Safe Drinking-Water

(a) whether majority of thehouseholds have no access to safe drinkingwater and if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether the Government has takenany steps to find out the number ofhouseholds without access to safe drinkingwater in the country and if so, the detailsthereof, State and district-wise;
(c) the details of the programmes toprovide safe drinking water to all thehouseholds in the country during the lastthree years;
(d) the funds allocated and spent onthe said programmes in the country duringthe said period, year and State-wise; and
(e) whether the Government has anyproposal to increase the allocation to ensurethat all the households should get accessto safe drinking water in the country and ifso, the details thereof?

(a) & (b)No, Madam. As regards to access to safe drinking water facility is concerned, this Ministry maintains the data in terms of rural habitations. As per information provided by State Governments on the Integrated Management Information System (IMIS) of the Ministry, 79.48% and 16.87% of the rural habitations are categorized as Fully Covered (getting at least 40 litres per capita per day of safe water) and Partially Covered (getting less than 40 litres per capita per day of safe water) respectively. Remaining 3.65% habitations don’t have access to safe drinking water. State wise details are at Annexure-I. The district-wise household data which are having access to clean drinking water across the country is being compiled which will take some time and will be submitted.
(c) This Ministry administers centrally sponsored National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) for providing financial and technical assistance to States for providing safe drinking water to all the rural households in the country. During last three years, the State wise details of achievements made under NRDWP are at Annexure-II. The district-wise household data which are having access to clean drinking water across the country is being compiled which will take some time and will be submitted.
(d) The year and State-wise details of funds allocated and spent onthe said programmes in the country duringthe last three years are at Annexure-III.
(e) This Ministry has proposed to Ministry of Finance to increase the allocation under NRDWP for higher coverage of drinking water supply under NRDWP.
