(a) whether the Union Government has received any proposals from the Naxalite affected States
for financial assistance for the development and repair of roads in the respective States;
(b) if so, the details thereof, State-wise, stretch-wise;
(c) the action taken by the Union Government thereon;
(d) the funds allocated and released therefrom in this regard, State-wise; and
(e) the measures taken by the Union Government to ensure better road connectivity in Naxalite

ANSWER ON 19.03.2008 ASKED BY SHRIMATI MANORAMA MADHAVARAJ AND SHRI RAMESH DUBE REGARDING
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR DEVELOPMENT OF ROADS IN NAXALITE AFFECTED STATES
(a) and (b) This Ministry is primary responsible for the development and maintenance of
National Highways. Apart from this, the Ministry is also funding the State Governments for
improvement of State roads from the Central Road Fund (CRF). At present, this Ministry has
no separate schemes for development and repair of roads in Naxal affected States.
However, the Government of Orissa had proposed in the year 2005 for construction of a
National Highway from Vijayawada to Ranchi, passing through the extremist affected areas in
the States of Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and Jharkhand. The total length from Vijayawada to Ranchi
is 1632 km having 598 km length of National Highways (NH) and 1034 km length of State Roads.
