Question : DISMANTLING OF PREVENTIVE DIVISIONAL UNITS OF CENTRAL EXCISE

(a) whether there is a move for dismantling of the Preventive Divisional Units of Central Excise Department; and

(b) if so, the details thereof alongwith the reasons therefor?

(a) & (b): No, Sir. As part of reorganizing and strengthening Headquarters anti-evasion set up in the Central Excise Commissionerates and preventive units in the Divisional offices of Commissionerates following the recommendations of the Rathindran Committee report, it has been decided that in places where the Divisions are located in the city in which the Commissionerates are also located, the anti-evasion work in the city should be entrusted to the Headquarters Anti-Evasion Wing, which is to be supervised by an officer of Joint Commissioner level. Wherever the Divisions are located in places other than that of Commissionerate, the Divisional Preventive Units will continue to function as before.
