Question : PERFORMANCE OF BHEL



(a) whether the Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. has been selling power related equipment in the country and also abroad;

(b) if so, the performance of BHEL in respect of production sale and export of the above equipment during each of the last three years;

(c) whether BHEL has set any target for production and export during the Ninth Five Year Plan; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and the steps taken to achieve the target?

(a)& (d): Yes, Sir. Indicative projections for production during the Ninth Five Year Plan were made in 1996-97 for BHEL. The yearwise projection and actuals of production during the relevant years were as follows:

No separate projections for exports were made for the Ninth Five Year Plan. However, order booking for exports is one of the items of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and achievement of export order booking by BHEL against MOUs during the Ninth Plan period was as below:

BHEL has taken steps for strengthening monitoring procedures, reducing cycle time & costs, improving quality, integrating information technology in its manufacturing processes and modernisation of facilities at various units to improve performance.
