Question : CONSTRUCTION OF PUCCA BRIDGE ON MAHANADI RIVER .



(a) whether no pucca bridge has been constructed on the Mahanadi river near Jhoa even after lapse of 50 years of independence;

(b) if so, the reasons therefor;

(c) whether in the absence of bridge, Bartai sub-division has been cut off from the district headquarters and people from the sub-division have to take a detour of comparatively longer distance to reach the district headquarters;

(d) if so, whether the Government propose to construct a pucca bridge at the said place in the public interest; and

(e) if so, the time by which the said bridge is likely to be constructed and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (e): Central Government is primarily responsible for the development and maintenance of only National Highways and the bridges falling thereon. All other roads and bridges there on fall within the jurisdiction of respective State Govt. The proposed bridge does not form part of the National Highway network.
