Question : Regional Centres of IGNTU

(a) the details of regional centres of the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU) that are functional in the country, State-wise;

(b) whether the Government has received requests from various State Governments including Kerala for setting up of such centres in their respective States;

(c) if so, the details thereof, State-wise and the response of the Government thereto;

(d) whether the State Government of Gujarat has proposed to provide 65-70 acres of land for the regional centre of the said university against the condition of 300 acres and if so, the details thereof and the reaction of the Government thereto; and

(e) the time by which it is likely to be resolved?

(a): There is only one Regional Centre of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU), Amarkantak (M.P.) which is functioning at Imphal, Manipur State.

(b) to (c): According to IGNTU, requests from the States of Chhattisgarh , Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Orissa , Jammu & Kashmir , Assam, Andhra Pradesh , Gujarat and Kerala for opening of regional centre of IGNTU in the respective States have been received.

(d) to (e): As regards the proposal of Govt. of Gujarat to provide land for the regional centre, it is informed that no such proposal has been received from the State Government of Gujarat. This Ministry has taken a policy decision that IGNTU should first stabilize its operations at its main Campus at Amarkantak in Madhya Pradesh. As of now the main Campus of IGNTU at Amarkantak has not been fully established academically and infrastructure wise.
