(a) whether the Government propose to set up an Advanced Heavy Water Nuclear Reactor of 220 megawatt capacity;

(b) if so, the place where this reactor is proposed to be set up;

(c) the estimated amount to be incurred thereon; and

(d) the time by which it is likely to be commissioned?

(a) to (d) It is proposed to set up a prototype Advanced Heavy Water Nuclear Reactor (AHWR) of 235 MWe capacity. The estimated cost of the project is Rs.1175 crore at constant price levels of 2000-01. The project is expected to be completed in eight years after the receipt of financial sanction. No decision has yet been taken as regards the location of the plant.
