Question : DILAPIDATED COACHES



(a) whether the Railway Coaches being attached to the trains operating on Daundh-Manmad section have been inspected;

(b) if so, whether a large number of coaches were found to be in bad condition during the course of inspection; and

(c) if so, the steps being taken by the Government to repair the old coaches and to bring about improvement in the manufacturing of new coaches?

(a): Yes Sir. Coaches running on Daund-Manmad section are inspected regularly.

(b): No, Sir. Recent checks indicate that the coaches running in Daund-Manmad section are in good fettle.

(c): Indian Railways follow a well established system of regular inspection and maintenance of coaches consisting of the following:


(i) Terminal maintenance of rakes during which amenity fitting found defective/deficient are replaced.

(ii) Intensive cleaning of coaches and renovation of rakes.

(iii) Periodical overhaul in workshops at prescribed intervals.

(iv) Mid-life rehabilitation of coaches in nominated workshops to upgrade the condition of coaches.

(v) As regards improvements in manufacturing of new coaches, various technological improvements like provision of stainless steel inlays in toilets, Poly Vinyl flooring, modern vestibules, 110 Volts train lighting system, fiberglass windows etc. have been incorporated.
