Question : National Commission for Backward Classes

(a) whether the Government proposes to give more powers to the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) on the lines of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has taken/ proposes to take any steps for strengthening the NCBC and making it more powerful; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (d): The National Commission of Backward Classes (NCBC) has been re-constituted as a constitutional body w.e.f. 15.08.2018 by insertion of a new Article 338B in the Constitution through the Constitution (One Hundred and Two Amendment) Act, 2018. At present, the powers available to the NCBC as per Article 338B are same as those available to the National Commission for Scheduled Castes as per Article 338.
