Question : CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS UNDER S.S.A



(a) whether any criteria has been fixed for selecting children with special needs(CWSN) under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan as reported in `The Times of India’ dated November 18, 2005;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the fund allocated for the programme as on date, State-wise;

(d) the States where this programme has not been attracting adequate response; and

(e) the measures proposed to be taken in such States?

(a) & (b): The SSA guidelines specify that every child with special needs in the 6-14 age group, irrespective of the degree, kind or category of disability, is provided education in an appropriate environment.

(c) The Budget for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in 2005-06 is Rs.7156.00 crores.

(d) All States and Union Territories are participating in the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan programme.

(e) Question does not arise.
