Question : Energy Production in Tarapur Atomic Plant

(a) whether the production of energy in Tarapur atomic power plant is not as per its installed capacity as a result of which electricity supply cannot be made as per allotted quota to various States including Madhya Pradesh;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor;

(c) whether the Government proposes to increase the supply of uranium to this plant;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the steps taken to increase generation of electricity in the plant?

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR PERSONNEL, PUBLIC GRIEVANCES & PENSIONS AND PRIME MINISTER’S OFFICE (Dr. JITENDRA SINGH):

(a) No, Sir. Tarapur Maharashtra Site (TMS) comprises four units viz, Tarapur Atomic Power Station-1&2 (TAPS-1&2, 2x160 MW) and Tarapur Atomic Power Station-3&4 (TAPS-3&4, 2x540 MW). TAPS-1&2 uses imported fuel and electricity generated by it is allocated exclusively to the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat. TAPS-3&4 uses indigenous fuel and electricity generated by these units is allocated to all the beneficiary states and Union Territories of the Western Electricity Region by the Ministry of Power. All the Units / Reactors at TMS presently operate at their rated capacity.

(b) to (e) Do not arise in view of (a) above.
