Question : VACANCY IN BRO



(a) whether the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) of the Government of India had cleared the recruitment of thousands of personnel in the Border Road Organisation (BRO) in 2006, which were to be filled in a span of three years;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government intends to fill these vacant posts; and

(d) if so, the time by which the vacant posts are likely to be filled up?

(a) to (d): Yes, Madam. In 2006 Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) had approved restoration of sanctioned manpower strength of Border Roads Organisation from 36945 in 2006 to the level of 2002 which was 42646. Induction of 5701 personnel was to be done in a phased manner over a three year period commencing from the year 2006-07.

Recruitment is an ongoing process and after approval of CCS in 2006, 9381 candidates have been inducted while 6274 vacancies were created due to retirements, resignations, deaths, etc. Action for filling up of the vacant posts through Union Public Service Commission, Staff Selection Commission and departmentally have been initiated and are at different stages.
