Question : Tribal University

(a) the State/UT-wise number of Central and State Universities in the country including
West-Bengal;
(b) the total number of tribal/Scheduled Tribes (ST) women in the Central and State
Universities at present in the country, State/UT-wise;
(c) whether the Government has implemented any schemes particularly for educated tribal
girls; and
(d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a): The State/UT-wise number of Central and State Universities in the country including
West Bengal is given in Annexure-I.
(b): The total State/UT-wise number of Tribal/Scheduled Tribes (ST) women in the 43
Central Universities under the purview of Ministry of Human Resource Development
(MHRD) is at Annexure-II. State/UT-wise ST women enrolment in respect of State
Universities is not maintained centrally in Ministry of Human Resource Development.
(c) & (d): The University Grants Commission (UGC) is implementing the following schemes
for the benefit of SC/ST Students including women/girls:

1) Residential Coaching Academies of Minorities /SC/ST and Women
2) Establishment of Centres in Universities for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive
Policy
3) Establishment of Equal Opportunities Cells (EOCs)
4) Establishment of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Cells in Universities
5) Coaching Schemes for Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes/OBC (non-creamy layer)/
Minorities (i) Remedial Coaching at UG & PG level (ii) Coaching for entry into
services (iii) Coaching for NET
6) National Fellowship for Higher Education of Scheduled Tribe Students (Formerly
Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship for ST Candidates)
