Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS (SHRI S.M. KRISHNA)

(a) No.

(b) The two Governments have, however, reached an understanding for citizens for both countries to provide an Identification Document while travelling by air. There is no such requirement for people travelling by land. The requirements were primarily put in place by both countries to enhance the security of air travel between India and Nepal.

(c) The requirements for travel between both the countries have been in practice for quite some time and no negative impact thereof has come to notice.
