Question : Compulsory Vocational Subjects

(a) whether it is a fact that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has remodelled its assessment schemes for Tenth Class Board examinations for the schools offering vocational subjects as compulsory subject under the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) from 2017-18 and if so, the details thereof; and

(b) whether the CBSE has also decided to do away with seven academic Electives and 34 vocational subjects for Class Twelfth due to low enrolment and if so, the details thereof ?

(a) and (b): Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has remodeled its assessment scheme for Class X Board Examination from 2017-18 for the Schools offering vocational subject as compulsory subject. Schools can offer Vocational subject as 6th Additional subject along with 5 academic subjects including two languages. Assessment will be carried out in Scholastic and Co-scholastic areas as per the guidelines issued in March, 2017. A special provision has also been made, wherein if, a student fails in any of the three main academic subjects i.e., Science, Mathematics, Social Science and pass in vocational subject then marks of failed subject will be replaced by vocational subject and result of Class X will be computed accordingly. CBSE has discontinued 7 Academic elective and 34 Vocational subjects at Sr. Secondary level from the Academic year 2017-18 due to low enrollments. The list of subjects is uploaded on CBSE website (www.cbse.nic.in).
