Question : National Broadband Mission

(a) the amount of funds allocated to the States of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh under the National Broadband Mission which was launched in December 2019;

(b) the progress of the Mission in the country including Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh; and

(c) the time by which all the villages in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh are proposed to be provided with broadband access under the aforesaid mission?

(a) to (c) A statement is laid on the Table of the House.

STATEMENT TO BE LAID ON THE TABLE OF LOK SABHA IN RESPECT OF PARTS (a) to (c) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. *360 FOR 18TH MARCH, 2020 REGARDING “NATIONAL BROADBAND MISSION ”.

(a) The likely investment under the National Broadband Mission is around Rs 7 Lakh crore which is to be catalysed largely by the industry out of which contribution by the Government through Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) is envisaged to be around 10%, that is, approximately Rs. 70,000 crore which will cover all the States in the country including the states of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

(b) & (c) The National Broadband Mission inter-alia envisages to provide broadband access to all the villages in the country including the villages of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh by 2022.
