(a) whether the Asian Institute of Transport Development has recommended corporatisation of production units under the Railways in order to improve their efficiency and enhance production;
(a) if so, the details thereof; and
(b) the steps taken to implement those recommendations ?

(a) & (b): Yes, Sir. The Asian Institute of Transport
Development in its Report submitted in Sept`2000, has
recommended the corporatisation of Production Units under the
Railways.
(c): The corporatisation of Production Units is not being
considered at present. However, it is proposed to make these
Production Units into separate cost & profit centers within the
present structure of Indian Railways.
