Question : Extension of NHs

(a) whether the length of National Highways has been extended during the last two years and the current year, if so, the length in kilometers extended as on date along with the sanctioned highways during 2016-17, State-wise;

(b) the names of the places at which the project of extension of national highways work is being implemented at present along with the sanctioned new highways, State/UT-wise;

(c) the kilometers targeted to be extended in the next three years;

(d) whether non-achievement of fixed target is adversely affecting the development of the country;

(e) if so, the action taken/proposed against the contractors/officers responsible for not achieving the targets; and

(f) the outcome of the said action?

(a) Yes Madam. The length of National Highways (NHs) developed during the last two years and current year as on Feb 2017 is 17075 km. The details of new proposals sanctioned for the development of NHs is given at Annexure.

(b) to (f) Development and maintenance of NHs in the country is a continuous process. The targets are fixed on yearly basis for the development of NHs. The target for construction of NHs during the current financial year is 15000 km and achievement is 6604 km till Feb 2017. The development process become slow due to non-achievement of target. The actions are taken against the contractor as per the contract agreement and this compels them to take necessary action for speeding up the construction of NHs.
