(a) the number of proposals received/pending under Rashtriya Madhyamic Shiksha Abhiyan during the year 2009-10 for setting up new schools and improving existing schools in the country, State/UTwise; and

(b) the amount sanctioned to each school separately for improvement of the existing ones and setting up new schools during the said period State/UT-wise?

(a) & (b) Annual plan proposals for 2009-10 under the centrally sponsored scheme “Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA)” were received from 31 States and UTs. All these proposals were taken up for consideration, and based on the viability of the proposals, 2478 new schools were sanctioned in 18 states in 2009-10. Besides, sanction was given for improvement to 7264 existing secondary schools in 18 states. State-wise details of new schools sanctioned, existing schools to be strengthened and the amount sanctioned are annexed.
