Question : IRRIGATION IN KARNATAKA



(a) whether the Union Government has received any proposals from the Government of Karnataka seeking approval for small irrigation projects;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Centre has taken any steps to examine the proposals; and

(d) if so, the reaction of the Union Government thereto?

(a) To (d) Water being a state subject, all (MI) schemes including revival of water bodies (CCA upto 2000 ha) as a whole are formulated, investigated, funded and implemented by the State government as per their own priorities. Governments of India do not approve the minor irrigation projects/revival of water bodies. However, Government of India provides technical and financial assistance to the states for the planning and implementation of schemes. Govt. of India also provides financial assistance to the states for implementation of minor irrigation projects/revival of water bodies under Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme (AIBP)/RRR in Non-Special Category States like Karnataka as per the approved guidelines. Ministry of Water Resources also provides funds to the states for revival of water bodies under RRR.
