Question : Water Vending Machines

(a) whether the Government is contemplating for water audit to check the waste of water at railway stations in the country particularly in Maharashtra;

(b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;
(c) whether all the water vending machines installed at Thane Railway Station in Maharashtra are working satisfactorily; and
(d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) & (b): So far Indian Railway has identified 152 main water consumption centers including 14 stations in Maharashtra for water audit to check waste of water.

(c) & (d): Presently, there is no Water Vending Machine (WVM) installed at Thane Railway Station in Maharashtra. However, tenders for installation of four WVMs have been called for by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation, under the WVM Policy issued in June 2015 to provide RO (Reverse Osmosis) drinking water to the passengers on payment basis.
