Question : UPLIFITMENT OF DEAF AND DUMB



(a) whether the Government have any new proposal for the upliftment and care of Deaf and Dumb persons in the country:

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the details of various schemes at present to promote Voluntary organizations for persons with the above disabilities?

(a) & (b) Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for the Hearing Handicapped (AJYNIHH) has launched a pilot project for training of trainers for early identification and intervention for hearing impaired infants and children at Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Secunderabad and Thiruvananthapuram . Besides, the Indian Sign Language Cell at AYJNIHH, Mumbai is in the process of expansion of its training activities to other parts of the country.

(c) Two schemes, namely, Scheme to Promote Voluntary Action for Persons with Disabilities (Umbrella Scheme) and Scheme of Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase /Fitting of Aids /Appliances (ADIP Scheme) are being supported by the Government.
