Question : Net Balance under MGNREGS

(a) whether the Government has provided additional funds for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) for the remaining period of the financial year 2021-22, if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;

(b) the latest net balance of the MGNREGS;

(c) the number and details of States and Union Territories which have a negative net balance; and

(d) the details of the amount due to the MGNREGS workers as wage payments?

Statement in reply to Parts (a) to (d) of Lok Sabha Starred Question No. 334 for 21.12.2021

(a): Financial allocation of Rs. 73,000 crore has been made for Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Scheme (Mahatma Gandhi NREGS) in financial year 2021-22 at Budget Estimate (BE) stage. Recently, additional fund of Rs. 10,000 crore is allocated for Mahatma Gandhi NREGS as an interim measure. Further, allocation may be made upon assessment of demand at Revised Estimate (RE) stage.

(b) & (c): Mahatma Gandhi NREGS is a demand driven wage employment programme and funds are released to the States/UTs on the basis of "agreed to" Labour Budget (LB) and performance of the States/UTs during the financial year. No financial allocation is made under this demand driven scheme to States/UTs.

In the current financial year 2021-22 (as on 15.12.2021), an amount of Rs. 73032.49 crore has been released to States/UTs for the implementation of the Scheme.

(d): State/UT-wise details of pending liabilities for wage component under Mahatma Gandhi NREGS as on 15.12.2021 are given at Annexure.
