(a) & (b) Since August 2019, Government of India in partnership with States, is implementing Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) – Har Ghar Jal to make provision of tap water supply to every rural household by 2024. In consultation with State Governments and other stakeholders working in water sector, Operational Guidelines for the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission, inter alia which includes provision for sustainability of drinking water sources through source strengthening and augmentation measures, was firmed up and released on 25.12.2019. Under JJM, for long-term sustainability of drinking water sources and water supply systems, provisions of preparing Village Action Plan has been made, inter alia which includes augmentation and strengthening of local drinking water sources in convergence with other schemes at village level viz. MGNREGS, 15th Finance Commission tied grants to Rural Local Bodies (RLBs), Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP), State schemes, District Mineral Development Fund, CSR funds, community contribution, etc.
Further, Government of India has also launched Jal Shakti Abhiyan to promote rainwater harvesting and water conservation.
