(a) whether the Government are aware of the fact that rift between the Bodos and non-Bodos in the North-Eastern State of Assam has started widening again;

(b) if so, the steps so far taken by the Union Government to check the situation; and

(c) if no steps have been taken, the reasons therefor?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO (a) to (c) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 509 FOR 30.4.2002- REGARDING `RIFT BETWEEN BODOS AND NON-BODOS` RAISED BY SHRI SATYAVRAT CHATURVEDI


(a) to (c): There are reports of tensions between Bodos and Non-Bodos in Assam. The State Government has been advised to adopt adequate security measures to prevent any untoward incident in the region. The tripartite peace talks involving the representatives of the Central Government, the Government of Assam and the Bodo Liberation Tiger (BLT) are continuing. The Government is committed to protect the democratic rights and the socio-economic interests of all sections of the society.
