Question : Fencing along Border

(a) whether it is a fact that the work of fencing of borders in all sensitive States on Indo-Bangladesh and Indo-Pakistan border could not be completed in a timebound manner, including in Assam, Tripura and West Bengal;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor along with the pendency of works against the schedule, State-wise;

(c) the time by which the remaining fencing work is likely to be completed; and

(d) whether the Government has any information regarding infiltration from Indo-Bangladesh border (IBB) since 2014 till date and if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (c): The fencing work on Indo-Bangladesh Border could not be completed due to various reasons which inter-alia include difficult terrain, riverine and marshy land, short working season, land acquisition problems,

public protests and objections by Border Guard Bangladesh. On Indo-Pakistan Border, the fencing could not be completed due to difficult terrain, including riverine/marshy land. The Government is regularly monitoring the progress of work.

(d): Border guarding forces conduct regular patrolling, lay nakas and establish observation posts and carry out anti tunneling exercise to stop illegal infiltration. However, some infiltrators are able to enter in a clandestine and surreptious manner, mainly due to difficult riverine terrain

in parts of international border with Bangladesh which are not amenable to physical fencing. The details of infiltrators who were apprehended along Indo-Bangladesh border during the last 6 years is as under:-
