Question : I.T.D.C. HOTELS

(a) the names of India Tourism Development Corporation hotels in the country, category-wise;

(b) the occupancy rate of I.T.D.C. hotels during each of the last three years and the current year and its income during that period;

(c) the reasons for decrease in the income and decrease in the occupancy rate;

(d) the names of hotels giving nagative report; and

(e) the schemes proposed to be formulated to increase the earning of I.T.D.C.?

(a): Hotel- wise details of ITDC hotels are given in Annexure.

(b): The details of occupancy and earnings of ITDC hotels are given as under:

(c): The decline in performance of ITDC hotels is attributed inter-alia to high wage cost, currency crises in South East Asian countries making them cheaper destination low turnout of business travellers and superior product profile of newly constructed private sector hotels.

(d) and (e): During the current year (upto Oct. 2000) all ITDC hotels have incurred net losses. Apart from economy measures to control expenditure other measures taken for improving performance of these hotels include aggressive marketing and promotion of hotels/services, Computerisation of hotels, inspection of hotels by senior officers to ensure compliance of standard operating procedures, drive to recover outstanding dues etc.
