Question : Skill Gap in Brass Parts Industry

(a) whether the Government has mandated the agency recruited for studying the brass parts industry in Jamnagar with identifying the skill gap in the sector;

(b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;

(c) whether the Government is considering imparting soft skills and entrepreneurial training for the industry in order to facilitate exports and if so, the details thereof; and

(d) whether there is a timeline for the same and if not, the reasons therefor?

Answer given by the minister

(a) to (b) The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) had instituted a district wise skill gap study for the State of Gujarat in 2012-13 . The Study estimated incremental manpower requirement of 99648 for 2012-17 and 85788 over 2017-22 in Jamnagar, in four focus areas including brass parts.

(c) to (d) Under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) all training centres are mandated to integrate training in soft skills, entrepreneurship, financial and digital literacy with all training programmes. The Directorate General of Training (DGT) has also compulsorily included a subject on “Employability Skills” across all trades in all training schemes (Craftsman Training Scheme, Apprenticeship Training Scheme, Skill Development Initiative Scheme). The “Employability Skills” include IT literacy, English literacy, Communication Skills and Entrepreneurship Skills.
