Question : Vacancy in Visakhapatnam Port Trust

(a) whether the Government is aware that a number of posts are lying vacant in the Visakhapatnam Port Trust;

(b) if so, whether the Government proposes to revise the estimated number of vacancies considering the technological advances and mechanisation, if so, the details thereof, action taken thereon and if not, the reasons therefor;

(c) the time by which the Government proposes to notify the revised vacancies to fill these posts at the earliest; and

(d) the details of the steps undertaken by the Government to ensure that major ports are made as efficient as Private Ports are in their functioning ?

(a) Yes, Sir.

(b) & (c) In view of the technological advances and mechanisation in Major Ports, a study to assess the exact requirement of manpower in Major Port Trusts was awarded by the Indian Ports Association to M/s KPMG. After receipt of the report of M/s KPMG, the right-sizing of the manpower in all Major Ports would be finalized.

(d) The Major Port Authorities Act, 2021 (No. 1 of 2021) notified by the Government on 18.02.2021 provides a governance framework keeping with global benchmarks.
