Question : SPONSORING SPORTS



(a) whether the Government has any proposal to sponsor various games like hockey, football etc. other than cricket;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the steps taken in this regard;

(c) if not, the reasons therefor;

(d) whether the Government has received any proposal from the various State Governments including Odisha in this regard;

(e) if so, the details thereof and the action taken on such proposals;

(f) whether the Government proposes to include such games in schools/colleges of the country; and

(g) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (c): No, Madam. The Government does not sponsor any game. However, the Government supplements the efforts of the recognized National Sport Federation concerned through financial assistance for holding national/international sports events in India, participation of sportspersons/teams in international sports events abroad, training/coaching of national level sportspersons/teams through Indian and foreign coaches, procurement of equipment and consumables etc. as per agreed Long Term Development Plans (LTDPs).

(e)Does not arise.

(f)As per the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, every school is required to provide playgrounds, sports equipments as well as part time instructors for physical education. However, there is no proposal for including any specific sport discipline in the curriculum of schools and colleges.
